PSMC Remains Open and Serving Our Community During Historic Flooding

Like so many throughout the greater Pagosa Springs community, Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) and our staff have been impacted by the severe flooding.

Some of our hospital and ambulance/EMS staff have been unable to report to work because flooding and road closures have prevented travel from Bayfield, Ignacio, Arboles, Durango, and communities on the other side of Wolf Creek Pass. In addition, limited air transportation and challenging road conditions have prevented some patients from being transferred to larger hospitals, requiring PSMC to continue providing their care locally.

Despite these extraordinary challenges, PSMC remains open and continues to provide hospital and ambulance services to our community. Our dedicated and skilled staff are working tirelessly to ensure continuity of patient care. PSMC ambulances also remain staffed and ready to respond to emergencies throughout our 1,800-square-mile service area, subject to road access and safety conditions.

We are deeply grateful to the Archuleta County Emergency Management team and all the first responders, public employees, and community members working to address this unprecedented flooding. We appreciate the emergency declarations and the efforts of the Town, County, and State to secure additional resources, including assistance from the National Guard. We also appreciate the support of regional hospitals in Durango and Cortez for their offers of help.

A special thank you to Sheriff Mike LeRoux for his leadership and support in helping PSMC maintain continuity of our hospital and ambulance services during this challenging time.

To our PSMC staff who continue to serve our patients under difficult circumstances, thank you. Your dedication to our community is extraordinary.

We are proud to serve this community, especially when our neighbors need us most.

We will get through this together.

Rhonda P. Webb, M.D., PSMC CEO and CMO
